PROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIREMENT FOR PORT PERRY UNITED CHURCH
Effective Sunday, November 21st, there will be some significant changes in covid protocols for worship at Port Perry United Church, as follows:
Pre-registration. We are still asking people to pre-register to attend worship, either on the church’s website or by telephoning the church office prior to the close of regular office hours at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. This makes our task of recording the names of those in attendance, as recommended by the Durham Region Health Department, a lot easier.
Covid Screening. Please do not attend worship if you are feeling unwell. You will be screened for symptoms when you arrive at church. If you become unwell after attending church, please let the church office know. This is especially important if you test positive for covid. It is important that we all do our best to protect not only those attending church, but also our community at large, from potential exposure.
Proof of Vaccination. By decision of the congregational Panel, effective Sunday, November 21st, in order to attend worship, everyone 12 and older must either show or already have shown their proof of full vaccination–either paper copy, screen shot, or Ontario government QR code–to a designated responsible church person (or have shown proof of a valid medical exemption). Many of you have already done so, and are included on our accumulated database. If you are not sure that you are already included, just to be on the safe side, please bring your proof of full vaccination as well as photo ID (driver’s licence or health card).
Queen Street Doors. Everyone, please enter by the Queen Street doors. And please plan to come a few minutes earlier than usual, in the event of delays at the door.
Masking. Everyone in the church building must be wearing a mask at all times, unless you are singing from behind a plexiglass barrier or speaking from behind a plexiglass barrier.
No More Capacity Limit. If everyone present for worship is fully vaccinated and masked, then we no longer need to observe strict physical distancing between households, and we can therefore accommodate all those who wish to attend worship.
No More Assigned Seating. Ushers are still happy to show you to your seat. Or you can sit in the seat of your choice. Printed orders of service are being spaced throughout the sanctuary, in order to encourage some distancing. Please try to avoid sitting directly beside or behind someone who is not from your household, out of consideration for their health and safety and peace of mind.
Choral Singing. Because church choirs are cohorted, that is, an identified group of the same individuals with assigned seating, the Durham Region Health Department is now allowing church choirs to sing. Physical distancing of 2 to 3 metres (6-1/2 to 9-3/4 feet) between households is still recommended. Our church choir will be returning to its place in the choir loft in stages, beginning with a smaller number, as decided by the choir executive, always bearing mind the health and safety of choir members. In accordance with Health Department requirements, the choir will be at least 4 metres (13 feet) from the congregation.
No Congregational Singing. Because congregations are not cohorted, the Durham Region Health Department is allowing congregations to sing in worship only if physical distancing of 2 to 3 metres (6-1/2 to 9-3/4 feet) between households is maintained. This would mean the effective return of capacity limits. The Panel had to make a decision between congregational singing with capacity limits on the one hand, and no congregational signing with no capacity limits on the other hand. The congregational Panel chose to allow more people to be able to attend worship. Therefore there will continue to be no congregational singing for the time being.
Sunday School. Sunday school is being offered as a group class in the auditorium. Classes divided by age group will resume in January. Children and youth are invited to start church in the sanctuary and then head downstairs after the conversation time.
Senior Youth Class. The Senior youth class is continuing in classroom 1, with Elaine or Don.
I Am Not Ready To Attend In-Person Worship. No worries at all. Please join us in worship via livestream, found on the church website, beginning on Sunday mornings at 9:50 a.m. Or you can ask the church office for a paper copy of the service to be mailed to you.
I Am Not Vaccinated. Proof of full vaccination is a temporary measure in order to provide an extra layer of protection for our children and those who are immune-compromised, as well as to allow for more people to be able to attend worship. You still are a valued and loved member of our church family. You can join us in worship via livestream, found on the church website, beginning on Sunday mornings at 9:50 a.m. Or you can ask the church office for a paper copy of the service to be mailed to you.
Questions. If you have questions or concerns, you are welcome to call the church office.
