Today’s scripture readings for worship are:
1 Samuel 16:1-13
Psalm 23
John 9:1-41
Ephesians 5:8-14
1 Samuel 16:1-13: Think of a time when many people in your life were certain about what would happen, but something else happened instead. David’s anointing was a surprise since he was the youngest son. Think of a time in your life when God has taken the least and the lost, or the most unlikely, and saved the day (or maybe ruined all your plans!) This passage also speaks about appearance. “The Lord does not look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” Reflect on the meaning of these words to you and how we judge others who might be different than we are.
John 9:1-41 speaks not only about blindness and healing, but also about respecting the Sabbath. Jesus was quick to see people and their need as more important than obeying rules. Have you ever broken a law to meet the needs of someone else, or broken the law for a good cause? When have your eyes been opened so that you have seen things in a new way?
