Today’s scripture readings for worship are:
Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7
Psalm 32
Matthew 4:1-11
Romans 5:12-19
Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7: Reflect upon why the Genesis story of the fall is heard at the beginning of Lent. From the earliest days of Christianity, believers made sense of what happened through Jesus by seeing him as a new Adam. By doing this, early theologians were saying that, as did the choices made by the first humans, Jesus’ choices have changed the very essence of what it means to be human.
Matthew 4:1-11: Matthew tells of the temptations of Christ. Why are these temptations actually tempting to Jesus? What could be offered to you that would tempt you to live a different life? What motivates and inspires you to follow Jesus at all costs?
