DAY THIRTY-FIVE – Monday, April 3, 2023
Mark 13:32-37
What are you waiting and watching for? A phone call from a loved one? Word about a possible job? News of recent medical tests? An apology from a friend? A visit from a child? Maybe the question to ask is how are you waiting? We can wait for so many different things, and we can wait in so many different ways. Depending on what it is, our waiting can be full of excitement, pain, confusion or anxiety.
Waiting for Jesus is a different sort of waiting. In this passage Jesus isn’t commanding us to wait with anticipation or inviting us to imagine that the Christian life is anxiety and worry-free. Rather, he’s promising that our Christian waiting will not be in vain, promising that even though we do not know the day and hour, yet it will come. He will return. We are therefore invited to watch in anticipation, avidly, alertly, but with full confidence that our Lord will come.
Confident that the Lord will come, we can get busy living our lives through God’s big picture. A big picture that tells us love will prevail.
