Mark 12:41-44
This passage from the gospel according to Mark may be brief, but it has a powerful message. The widow in this gospel reading sacrificed significantly to give what little money she had into the treasury. Jesus wanted the disciples to follow her example, not the example of those with money who liked to show off their wealth when they gave their temple offerings. The woman showed faith, confidence and trust in God and gave everything she had in his name. What she demonstrated by her actions is a good reminder of what is important. What this passage is saying to me is that what we contribute to society should come from the heart and be led by a spirit of generosity, caring and faith in God.
