Mark 8:22-26
In the town of Bethsaida a blind man came to Jesus to be cured. Instead of healing him there with his friends and companions, Jesus led him out of town to a quiet spot. In doing so the man showed great faith in Jesus. He trusted Jesus to keep him safe. Jesus spit on his eyes and put his hands on him. He asked the man if he could see, but the man could only see men as trees walking. Jesus again laid his hands on the man’s eyes and asked him to look up. The man’s sight was restored and he saw men clearly. Jesus sent him away saying that he should not go back into the town or tell anyone what had happened.
Jesus usually didn’t touch his subjects who asked for his healing. He usually healed them right there in front of their friends. This story only appears in Mark which is also different. Then miracles usually were done fast, not in stages like this one.
The blind man was alone with Jesus instead of being in a crowd. This must have made him feel very special. To spend some quiet time with Jesus alone was a special gift. Maybe we should try to find time in our busy schedules to quietly find time to be alone with Jesus. A time to reflect on things such as our hopes and dreams, our worries and our triumphs. My quiet times are at our son’s cottage on the deck or sitting quietly on the pontoon boat or walking in the sun shine. These times restore my inner strength. I am truly blessed.
