DAY FIFTEEN – Friday, March 18, 2022
Matthew 10:5-15
In this Pandemic Year of Our Lord, 2022, there seem to be many lost sheep worldwide.
From the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, one of my favourite lyric lines is “Always hoped that I’d be an apostle...”. To first go out and proclaim a message, like in the scripture – “Heal the sick ... drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
As in any cause promotion, a disciple, an apostle, would approach people in a friendly open manner, and very soon it becomes evident if they are willing to be open to your ideas, and you slowly develop a rapport that carries your points of view. Maybe they buy in or of the wait-and-see kind. Don’t push it. They will ultimately choose.
However, some are hostile right off the bat. So shake the dust off your feet and go.
Leave? Go?
Maybe not in Lent 2022. Frankly, I’m one of the lost sheep, along with how many more of us? Individuals are suffering mentally, from fatigue to illness. Collectively we are exhibiting mental trauma in different ways. A society divided. Where is it going? Where will it all end up?
I live on the front edge of now, and have to keep my mind, eyes and ears open to see how the play develops.
So far, we have people exercising their right to protest. While many interruptions to what we called normal life, frustration personified by rude, improper to bad behaviour, there has been no vicious violence.
What can I do? Stay the course. Do not shake the dust from my feet. Keep my faith. Be myself. I know people who are doing that for me.
Freely I have received, freely I give.
