Matthew 8:18-22
The situation which came to me upon reading this text and subsequently pondering over it was one of myself and Christ’s call to me to walk away from my teaching career and step out into the unknown as the only staff person for the Boys’ Brigade in Canada. When going for the interview about the position, I told myself it was for information only and it couldn’t be the right thing for me to do. The excuses about salary, benefits and locations were all taken care of and left me with the message that this was something I was called to do. Jesus was using people to call me to take up the challenge and follow Him. The following five years of national and international travel, developing training courses, running the daily operations of the national organization, and preaching, training and singing from coast to coast, were wonderful spiritual experiences for me and my family. Along the way, there were continual directions from Christ, expressed through others whom I met. It was a rewarding and successful time for us.
This passage then, reminded me that if we listen and reflect, Christ speaks to us through others with whom we come into contact.
Listen and watch for the signs for ways in which Christ wants you to follow and to serve him.
