UPDATE ON COVID-19...
Many will be wondering what is happening with our church buildings and in-person worship services as a result of the provincial government's announcement on Monday, June 8th, regarding reopening places of worship. At a meeting of our Pastoral Charge Council, an ad hoc committee was formed to oversee the reopening of Port Perry and Prince Albert United Churches.
This committee advises as follows:
Although provincial regulations regarding places of worship have recently been changed to allow for gatherings of up to 30% capacity, our current plan is that Port Perry and Prince Albert United Churches will not reopen for in-person services or meetings until at least September. This decision is a difficult one because we understand the strong desire for us to gather again as a community of Christians, while at the same time it is an easy decision because we have an obligation to do our best to maintain the health and safety of all. Ontario remains in a state of emergency, and we all need to continue to do our part to eliminate the spread of covid-19.
This will give time for the Port Perry United Church Panel and its committees, along with the Prince Albert United Church congregation to prepare for our eventual return to our buildings, in a way that is measured and careful, and keeps everyone as safe as possible. We will endeavour to keep you informed as planning continues for the eventual resumption of in-person services and activities.
Throughout the next few months, our services will continue to be provided on-line and by mail, and we encourage everyone to remain connected to our churches and to one another.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the committee by emailing the church office at: office@portperryunited.com
Respectfully,
Lorraine Andrews, Prince Albert member of charge-wide Worship Committee
Dean Bertrim, Chair of Port Perry Stewardship Committee
Marion Blackburn, Chair of Prince Albert congregation
Rusty Hick, Chair of Port Perry Panel
Doug Suppelsa, Chair of charge-wide Worship Committee
